Privacy

Quietscribe is private by default. Unless you switch on Cloud mode, we never receive your files: audio and video you choose are opened by your browser and processed on your own device, and are not uploaded to us or to anyone else.

To run the speech recognition, your browser downloads an open-source AI model from Hugging Face and the page code from jsDelivr the first time you use a tool. These services see a normal web request, like any website you visit, but they never receive your file or your transcript.

Optional Cloud mode

For languages the on-device AI handles poorly, such as Urdu, and for faster results on phones, you can switch on Cloud mode. Only when it is on, the sound from your file (not the video picture) is sent in short pieces to our Cloudflare Worker, transcribed by Whisper on Cloudflare Workers AI, and returned to your browser. We do not store the audio or the transcript, and they are not used to train any AI. Leave Cloud mode off and nothing ever leaves your device.

To keep Cloud mode free and fair, each visitor can use up to 20 Cloud minutes a day. To count this we keep a scrambled code made from your internet address and the date (a one-way hash, from which the address can't be recovered), together with the number of seconds used. It is deleted automatically after two days and is never linked to your files or transcripts.

The site remembers your accuracy and Cloud mode settings in your browser's local storage. You can clear them at any time in your browser settings.

Visitor statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It uses no cookies and does not track you across websites. It records basic, anonymous details such as which page was opened, the country the visit came from, and the type of browser and device. It never sees your files or transcripts.

If we add advertising in the future, this page will be updated first to explain what is collected and how to opt out.
